Renner’s Hawkeye making a Thor Cameo?

Another rumour based on a brief statement from somone “in the know” says that Jeremy Renner does make an appearance in Thor as a cameo to his role as Clint Barton – the Avenger known as Hawkeye.

TheFilmstage offers:

Apparently someone who saw an early cut of the film confirmed that Renner shows up in the role, but, and frustratingly so, that’s all that was revealed.

The main reason to put consideration into this rumor is the fact that the actor himself speculated he would be showing up in it, as when he talked to Empire he said that:

“If I was a betting man, I would bet that Hawkeye would probably show up in Thor, and then be in The Avengers. But do I know for sure? I can’t say. But I’d love for that to happen. It’d be fun”.

Marvel has hardly been shy about crossing over characters and giving cameos (even brief ones) to actors set to be in future films.

And hearing that Renner would be up for a day or two of work to have his character skitter across the screen or be standing in the background just to add some tease for the fans, I wouldn’t doubt that during the filming of Thor they decided to make that happen.

We already know Renner is going to be Hawkeye, and I am eager to see how he is portrayed in the role (please no purple leather) but we will see him soon enough. Would be a great fanservice if it was in Thor, but we will see it when we see it.

New Kung Fu Panda 2 TV Spot

A new tv spot for next May’s Kung Fu Panda 2 has surfaced online

Short and sweet, the trailer doesnt give away much, but its good to see Po fighting alongside The Furious Five. I really enjoyed the first film, but I think it didnt use its cast well enough. I mean, stars like Jackie Chan and Lucy Liu had barely any lines, and in this new film they’re throwing in James Woods and Jean-Claude Van Damme too. I worry they’re trying to add too much.

Plop Plop Fur Fur – Del Toro was a Werewolf!?!

Guillermo Del Toro is famous for his eclectic but charming oddities, and this is no exception. Collider has unearthed a YouTube of a Del Toro written/directed Alka Seltzer commercial that stars himself as a werewolf!

  Collider.com says:

It’s good to know that Alka Seltzer not only helps with upset stomach, but lycanthropy.  Thanks, Del Toro!

Del Toro is one of my favorite directors, but not just because of his work. His films are, for the most part, fantastic stories, but visually, I feel they often run the risk of Timburtonitus, where all of the creatures just kind of look the same. My true love for Del Toro comes from interviews, behind the scenes videos on his BluRays and little things like this commercial. He is so passionate about his work, developing giant notebooks of sketches and ideas he knows he’ll never get to explore for each of his films. He is fully invested in his craft, and its incredibly admirable. Combining that with his charismatic demeanor and endearing accent, he’s a filmmaker I can’t stop watching and following.

Make Your Own Rorschach Mask!

Halloween may be 304 days away (yes, I checked), But that doesn’t mean you can’t start work on your own awesome Rorschach costume. Now I know what your thinking, “Whats the point? My mask’s inkblots wont move”. Well, Youtube user guinness0507 has you covered! Check out the video below.

Using Thermochromic paint pigment and clear screen printing base, you can now make an ink blot mask that changes like the character Rorschach from the movie the watchmen. As you breath in and out, the color of the mask changes from black to white wherever the wearer’s breath hits it and warms it to a point above 86 degrees F.

I know its not perfect but its certainly the best amateur Rorschach mask that I’ve seen. Would any of you consider making your own?

Tim Burton Working on Nightmare Before Christmas Sequel? [UPDATED]

One of the most successfull stop motion animation films ever, The Nightmare Before Christmas, could be getting a sequel, if an unnamed source is to believed.

Bloody-Disgusting reports

An unnamed source over at Dread Central claims to have spoken directly with Paul “Pee Wee Herman” Reubens regarding his forthcoming East Coast stage show. When asked if Reubens would ever work again with director Tim Burton – who directed Pee Wee’s Big Adventure – he revealed that Burton is (finally) secretly working on a sequel to his stop-motion masterpiece The Nightmare Before Christmas

I have mixed feelings about this. It could end up being a heartless cash in. Disney knows how loved the film is, and that its fans will snap up anything under the ‘Nightmare..’ banner, especially another film. But if they bring back all the original ingredients like Deane Taylor for art direction and of course Danny Elfman for the score, theres no reason why this shouldnt be amazing.

I have faith that if Tim Burton IS in fact making a sequel, he wouldn’t do so without having some great ideas in that crazy head of his. He wouldn’t let all those fans down… would he?
Of course, this is just a rumour, so take it all with a grain of salt.

UPDATE
Turns out it WAS just a rumour after all.

Playlist Reports

Derek Frey, producer and executive at Tim Burton Productions—who worked as an assistant to Burton on “Mars Attacks!,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “Planet of the Apes,” “Big Fish” and the 2006 3D version of a little film called “The Nightmare Before Christmas”—has told us there is “no truth to the rumor” and expressed gratitude for squashing the rumor quickly. The prospect of a sequel seems reasonable considering the single film has become a merchandising machine, but with Tim Burton busy prepping “Dark Shadows” and producing “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” it seems that for now he has his hands full (and that’s not even counting the myriad projects he has in development like “Monsterpocalypse” and the “Addams Family”).

Shame, but I like to hope the idea is in their minds now.

Cedar Rapids Trailer

Cedar Rapids, starring Ed Helms and John C. Reilly, is the upcoming comedy about Tim Lippe, a naive insurance salesman from a small town, sent to a convention in a big city where, naturally, hilarity ensues.

To call insurance agent Tim Lippe (Ed Helms), “naive” is a gross understatement. He’s never left his small hometown. He’s never stayed at a hotel. And he’s never experienced anything like Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sent to represent his company at the annual insurance convention, Tim is soon distracted by three convention veterans (John C. Reilly, Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock Jr.) who will show him the ropes and push his boundaries. For a guy who plays everything by the book, this convention will be anything but conventional.

Looks great to me! I thought Ed Helms was great in the hangover, you really felt sorry for the guy, so he’s perfect for this. I imagine John C. Reilly is going to have some of the best lines, but hopefully they don’t make him too crude. I especially liked the humour of the trailer, for example when Isiah Whitlock, Jr references the wire.
I have high hopes for this, and it was featured in the 2009 Blacklist of best unprocduced screenplays, so fingers crossed.

Kevin Smith not Promoting Red State to the Press

I do love me some Kevin Smith and I do find him enlightened as a film maker and storyteller, but even now I have to question his sanity. I tried not to take it personally when he took shots at journalists who didn’t pay to see his movie (advanced press screenings) and gave it a poor review. I don’t treat a movie any differently when I review them based on whether I paid to see them or if it was an advanced screening.

But his strong feelings on press reviews and traditional publicity have pushed him to flip the bird at convention and deny any press screenings, press kits, or any other publicity to promote his first stab at the Horror genre with Red State.

Worst Previews quotes Smith:

“I’m not press-junketing at all, anywhere,” said Smith, adding that journalists will have to listen to hours of his Smodcast if they want to get any information about his film. He is, however, considering transcribing a Questions and Answers session for “SUPER lazy writers.” Basically, “nobody needs to talk to me anymore anyway, as anyone who’s curious can always know what I’m thinking 24/7 right here on Twitter.”

While I think Kevin Smith is an amazing storyteller, and I am really looking forward to what he says or does with Red State, I worry that his passive aggressive stand against traditional media (which he is ironically a part of) will hurt his career and this film.

As of yet, Red State is not purchased for distribution and an unwillingness to follow traditional means of publicity might sound like a morality stand for him, but a giant red flag for the marketing and PR of major distribution chains.

On the other hand, sites like this one who do follow his Smodcast and Twitter are doing all the PR for him. And we are free!

I just worry that his views on the PR machine and promotion are starting to make him sound like Alan Moore kind of crazy. Doing it for the art, and hating on the process that makes it a movie.

Still looking forward to what he does with it.

The Avengers is looking to Cast another Female?

Word on the street is that Marvel isn’t done casting The Avengers, and who they want to add will be another female for an as yet to be named role. Assumption says it will be a core Avenger (because we still don’t know who the big bad is) and that leads most assumptions to The Wasp – rumoured at one point to be played by Eva Longoria.

Ramascreen says:

When the key cast of THE AVENGERS were announced back at Comic-Con ’10, poor Scarlett Johansson was just there by her lone female self, surrounded by Jackson, RDJ, Renner, Evans, Ruffalo, Hemsworth. Scar-Jo is set to play Black Widow. According to Hollywood Reporter, Marvel is looking for another female actress but the role is not yet revealed.

Now of course with a female role being mentioned, the gut reaction is to suggest The Wasp, but also remember that The Scarlet Witch is also a predominate classic Avengers girl too. I would assume Scarlet Witch is not part of the rights deal that Fox has over X-Characters as she is primarily an Avenger despite the fact that she and her brother Quicksilver are Magneto’s children. A detail easily overlooked for the films.

However with each of those two comes man baggage and people are suggesting if they add the Wasp they HAVE to add Ant-Man, and with Scarlet Witch they would HAVE to have The Vision – their respective love interests in the comic series.

I personally don’t see the need for either of them to be brought down with love interests in an ensemble film. If they add either one of these girls there is no reason to insist on their eventual boyfriends to be involved either.

But in the end of the day, it sounds more like Marvel is trying to throw some balance of the double X chromosome into the mix so Scarlett is not the only girl at the party. In that case I vote for The Wasp and let her cross over into Ant-Man’s film where there will be time to develop a love interest if they want.

I don’t have time for love interests in The Avengers.

Back to the Future 1&2 Overlap Scene Comparisons

It’s no secret that actress Claudia Wells was replaced in the second chapter of the Back to the Future Trilogy. It wasn’t that big of a deal considering the actress was barely even in the first movie. She was the token girlfriend and irrelevant to the plot until the second movie (You and Jennifer turn out fine… its your KIDS!!) and all the subsequent appearances of Marty’s girlfriend were then played by Elizabeth Shue – still a relatively minor role.

But as the storylines overlap, the very beginning of Back to the Future 2 used the closing moments of Back to the Future to kick off the story, but this time they had to reshoot the scenes with Shue in place (and include Biff seeing the flying DeLorean taking off)

Check out this side by side of the two scenes.

It is neat to see the two side by side like that, seeing the upgraded video, effects and obviously how Michael J Fox had aged slightly.

Propworx Caprica Auction Online!

Propworx is a great auction event service that delivers the highest quality of authentic memorabilia for any fan looking to get their hands on items directly from their favourite TV show or Movies. They got their start with a Battlestar Galactica Auction and now they do everything from Iron Man, Stargate, Kevin Smith Askewniverse and others.

And their most recent event will feature collectables from the Battlestar Galactica spinoff/prequel Caprica.

Propworx, in association with NBC Universal Television Consumer Products Group, announces The Official Caprica Prop and Costume Auction. The auction will commence on January 2, 2011 with six weekly auctions hosted on eBay (see www.propworx.com for auction participation details). Hundreds of props, costumes, production artwork, concept drawings, and set pieces will be up for bid, starting with the first week of auctions January 2 – 9, 2011 and coinciding with the airing of the remaining five episodes of Caprica on Syfy on January 4, 2011 from 6pm to 11pm ET/PT.
Most notable among the lots is the spectacular purple dress worn by actress Alessandra Torresani as Zoe Graystone. Worn by Zoe throughout the entire series, this custom dress was made by production and features a spandex construction with silver braiding and faux jewels around the neckline.
Also up for sale is Lacy Rand’s Hero motorcycle helmet, worn by actress Magda Apanowicz. This screen-used helmet was worn by Lacy while riding Nestor’s motorcycle and includes vintage-looking goggles.

I have always supported the Propworx people as they always seem to have the fans interests at heart. One of the more amazing things they do is release these Catalogues for their larger events that showcase the auction items which is in itself a collector’s item. I have a few of them already and they are incredible.

Check out just some of the items up for grabs:

Some pretty awesome stuff there if you are a Caprica fan!

Antman Cameo in The Avengers?

With the Avengers coming out, we anticipated that it might include some of the supporting Avenger characters in lesser roles to catapult them into their own spinoff solo films to follow up the epic ensemble.

But Antman (still waiting in the hands of Edgar Wright) and the Wasp were not mentioned among their ranks.

Still, a rumour has sprung up suggesting that Whedonite alum Alan Tudyk is going to appear in a cameo in Avengers. The scene will be a stinger apparently building the Ultron android staging his own villain.

In fact another Firefly star Alan Tudyk is not only locked in for a solo film for the character, but will briefly appear in The Avengers as the character’s scientist counter part Hank Pym Along with wife and fellow super hero Janet Van Dyne (both [of] whose transformation into Ant-Man and Wasp will be shown as the after the credits scene in The Avengers).

Interestingly enough it was Ultron who created The Vision, a synthazoid that eventually joins the ranks of The Avengers. So this story could run full circle into The Avengers 2 with Antman, Wasp, Scarlet Witch and Vision involved.

While I thought that Nathan Fillion would have been the perfect blend of vulnerability and confidence to play Ant-Man, but now that I picture it, Tudyk could do that as well. We just see Tudyk playing a lot more of the vulnerable than the confident.

But this is just a blind rumour so I won’t preach it as gospel until we get something more solid on the matter.

Tron Uprising TV Miniseries in Production

I was surprised in this day and age that a sequel to Tron Legacy wasn’t instantly greenlit during the casting process of the film. But still no one is pulling that trigger, however a TV Miniseries is planned to spell out what happened between films.

Zap2it says:

Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis, the film’s screenwriters, confirm that they’ve also written a 10-part animated television miniseries that will fall in line with the continuity of the films. While a third film has yet to be greenlit, the cast and crew of the TV series, titled “TRON: Uprising” certainly speak to its quality.

Bruce Boxleitner, who played Tron in both films, is signed on. “Bruce Boxleitner is in it, Elijah Wood, Linda Moore, Paul Reubens, Lance Henriksen. I mean, we’ve got a really cool group of actors,” Horowitz tells Box Office Magazine

The series promises to explore a time before Sam’s arrival to chronicle how Clu took over the Grid and the events leading up to Legacy.

A third film didn’t get the green light yet, but an animated miniseries sounds like it could be fun to fill in the blanks.

The Avengers to Focus on Kree-Skrull War?

After a local newspaper, the Albuquerque Journal reported on The Avengers set to film in the city we are now lead to believe that the Kree-Skrull war will be the central conflict of The Avengers film.

The alien civil war finds its way to earth and the Heroes have no choice but to defend the planet from the conflicting forces set on making Earth its battlefield.

GeekTyrant shares:

Thanks to an Aiint It Cool News reader who picked up this copy of Albuquerque Journal on Christmas Eve saw the story about The Avengers and noticed this line “The Avengers’ script will blend Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger story lines as the Avengers battle with two alien races, the Skrulls and the Kree.

I could see this as an epic battle worthy of The Avengers as our heroes get caught up in this Alien Civil War.

Most of the character development in The Avengers has been taken care of with the individual films (and a few yet to come out) and the few extra faces will get introduced in the movie itself then on to the big conflict.

But is this revelation just the assumption and error of a local newspaper journalist? Or did he see or hear something while reporting and break this wide open?

There is also a wild rumour that Camp Rock starlet Demi Lovato might be up for a minor role too, but until they name her character I will assume its just rumour

Red State Teaser Trailer Online

A teaser trailer was released on Kevin Smith’s Smodcast website showing a splattering of images from his upcoming Horror film Red State.

Red State is strongly influenced by religious extremists like Fred Phelps and while this teaser could have used a soundtrack, the singular voice singing away is also pretty creepy.

I cant wait to see what he does with this.

Gemma Arterton and Andrew Garfield in Capa

In an interview, Gemma Arterton had to cut herself short of spilling everything she is involved in for the upcoming year but she did manage to slip that she will star opposite Andrew Garfield in Capa.

TotalFilm quotes Arterton:

This year’s been intense, but next year’s going to be… intenser! [Laughs] I’m attached to about nine projects but I’m not sure which one’s I’m allowed to talk about.

But I’m aiming for even more diversity. Capa [biopic about the combat photographer Robert Capa] is confirmed, so I should be working with your hottest actor, Andrew Garfield!

Andrew Garfield is getting some degree of notice after being cast as Spider-Man. Its not like the guy wasn’t getting work before, but it seems that once he got the webhead gig, his name keeps popping up for other projects.

And of course anything with Gemma in it will get my attention.

Weekend Boxoffice Report December 24th-26th

The Fockers apparently still have the charm to win over a Christmas Weekend Boxoffice dominating the less family friendly remake of a John Wayne Classic True Grit.
Boxoffice Mojo has the estimates:

Little Fockers – $34,016,000 – Opening
True Grit (2010) – $25,600,000 – Opening
Tron Legacy – $20,107,000 – 2wks
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – $10,800,000 – 3wks
Yogi Bear – $8,800,000 – 2wks

Tron is still sitting pretty tall in his digital britches there clinging to a respectable third place and Yogi Bear holds that last spot in the Top 5.

Now I didn’t have a lot of hope for Jack Black’s Gulliver’s Travels and it seems many others thought the same as the film scored $7.2m this opening weekend securing a seventh place spot at the boxoffice.

Rodney’s Top Ten Christmas Movies

I posted this list last year as well, but while I will be taking a break to enjoy the holidays and return on Monday, I thought I would offer it up again.

Its that time of year when we have a ton on our plate but life doesn’t stop. Between that and Christmas shopping we still have to find time to hit up those movies we are craving to see.

But for me, movies are more at home around Christmas and just in time for Christmas I thought I would present my Top Ten Christmas movies that always make their way into the home theater at this time of year. So this list is the movies that bear repeat viewing and always get a show in my home.

#10 – Christmas Vacation

The Griswold Family loves to vacation, but there was no travelling this time around. The family comes to them and as usual nothing goes right. Its a touching tale that not everything at Christmas goes smoothly and sooner or later you end up with some unfortunate circumstances. But you dont get to choose your family, but they are your family.

#9 – The Santa Clause

Tim Allen films are a weak spot for me, and I tend to like his family friendly fare. A big popular series in my household is the Santa Clause series. When Santa falls off Scott Calvin’s roof, Scott puts on the outfit while investigating the abondoned Sleigh and Reindeer and inadvertantly triggers the Clause that says if you put on the outfit you will become the new Santa. Hilarity ensues. The sequel was also good, but the third falls flat.

#8 – It’s a Wonderful Life

The oldest film on my list, but one that always pulls at the heartstrings for me. Yes, it is a Christmas story, but its not really about Christmas. An influential man thinks he has it tough and an angel out to get his wings presents him with a look at his own world without him. A classic story about appreciating what you have and how you can affect others, is perfect for a Christmas season.

#7 – The Nightmare Before Christmas

A stop motion animated Tim Burton classic that takes a stab at Christmas on route to Halloween. Just another reminder of how hard of a job the Jolly Elf has. Its a fun romp in a world of holiday spirits. The music is fun and its a deviation of the regular Holiday mush.

#6 – How the Grinch Stole Christmas

I am talking about the original animated TV Special, but the live action one has its merits too. But with classic tradition and nostalgia the original animated, while only 22minutes in playtime is among my favourite Christmas viewings. I still get a little warm fuzzy when the Grinch’s heart grows.

#5 – A Muppet’s Christmas Carol

No Christmas tale has been remade more than Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The music is infectiously catchy and Michael Caine as Scrooge is perfect. In the grand tradition of the Muppets playing out the parts in classic stories, Kermit plays Cratchit, which makes the perfect portrayal of Tiny Tim by his nephew Robin.

#4 – Scrooged!

Another Christmas Carol adaptation, but a moden twist that is not only hilarious, but magicly touching. Bill Murray is in perfect comedic form and the supporting cast is perfect. Even amidst all its silliness and goofy characters.

#3 – A Christmas Story

The ultimate tale of Christmas told from the mind of a young man who’s only concern in the holiday season is the ultimate present- an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle! Its all kids REALLY think about at Christmas, and this was an honest look at Christmas fromt he eyes of a nine year old. A classic that has migrated to the Bluray section of my collection.

#2 – Die Hard

Forget all those feel good Christmas movies that have a feelgood theme of goodwill towards man. In this film most of the things coming toward man are bullets, feet, and chairs. NY Cop John McClane is visiting his estranged wife to try and save their marriage when the office building in which her corporate christmas party takes place comes under seige and the party people become hostages. McClane risks life and limb inspired by duty and his desire to salvage his marriage. That’s sacrifice and giving. The true spirit of Christmas.

#1 – Gremilins

While not a specifically a Christmas movie, it does take place at Christmas. The film revolves around an inventor who brings home a unique gift. A small fuzzy creature called a Mogwai. The creature comes with some rules – Keep away from Sunlight, Don’t feed after midnight, Never get it wet. When these rules are broken, a mischevious legion of Gremlins is unleashed on a small town wreaking havoc. Lots of laughs, cutsey “Awwww”s and a fun ride make this top my nostalgia list for Chirstmas.

So while my less than conventional list of movies wont neccessarily be the same as your Holiday Favourites, this is what graces the screen in my home at this time of year.

So what’s on your “must see” list at this time of year?

Hangover 2 Stuntman in a Coma

The Hangover was such an impacting comedy that a sequel has to push those limits even more to try and top it. But have they pushed too hard trying to bring us amazing visuals? Turns out a stuntman involved in a car accident stunt has been seriously injured and is currently in a coma.

WorstPreviews shares:

Scott McLean, was hospitalized following an accident on the film’s set in Thailand. He suffered injuries during a stunt involving two cars crashing into each other at high speed in Bangkok.

As much as I have sympathy for this man and his family for this unfortunate event, I can’t help but think that stunt would be pretty badass if it put the guy in a coma.

So now I am emotionally conflicted on the verge of cursing these film makers for involving a stunt so dangerous, but I have to assume that all the precautions were taken to keep him safe and something went wrong that resulted in his injury.

It sucks that McLean was injured, but this has to be in the back of the mind of every stuntman in Hollywood. Sooner or later you are going to get hurt.

Christina Hendricks wants Wonder Woman Role

Christina Hedricks has expressed interest in playing Wonder Woman in the proposed TV series revival after rumours put her in the role.

The Mad Men star admitted that she would “love” to take on the iconic role during an appearance on talk show Rachael Ray.

“I heard that rumor too – I don’t know where it got started but I love it!” she said when asked about reports of her playing the comic book character. “I’ve been wanting to wear that outfit my whole life! I’d love to [do it]. That would be such fun. Let’s put it out there!”

I love me some Christina Hedricks, and while she might look absolutley pornographic in the Wonder Woman garb, I don’t know that I want to see her take on the role.

She is a fantastic actress, and seriously easy on the eyes, but I don’t see her as a match for the Amazon Princess.

George Lucas releases FRAMES in Gorgeous Collector Set

George Lucas has found another way to cash in on his massive film franchise Star Wars, but this time it will be something that hardcore fans will appreciate and a collectors item worth having.

Frame by frame, images were pulled from the film and from those selected, Papa Smurf collected and organized them into six volumes of screen images to create the ultimate collector’s piece for Star Wars fans.

There are 1138 copies of this collection put out and will be coveted indeed.

I figure these will cost more than I can imagine and I can imagine quite a bit.

Black Swan and others Disqualified for Oscar Score Consideration

Before we even get wind of the Oscar Nominations, a handful of restrictions have already disqualified a number of films from consideration.

ScreenRant reports:

the scores for Black Swan and True Grit have been disqualified due to “the use of tracked themes or other pre-existing music.” In addition, The Fighter and The Kids Are All Right have also been taken out of competition as they are “diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs.”

Now I could see Black Swan being eliminated because of its use of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, but they couldn’t rightfully have had a film revolving around that particular Ballet production without it. Granted Clint Mansell’s version was not an exact score of Swan Lake but derrivitves are considered grounds for disqualification as well. Where is his recognition for that beautifully haunting score? He doesn’t get any from Oscar.

I am still trying to grasp exactly what “diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs” is supposed to mean.

The Oscars have so many rules that it diminishes the value of these efforts to disqualify them over something so obscure. It should be simple. If the score of the film (existing music or not) is effective and impacting on the movie, then it should be considered for an Oscar. But there are strange rules that appear to have no bearing on the works that shoot down valid efforts like if too many people work on the score (The Dark Knight).

I am not saying there shouldn’t be rules, but these seem a bit extreme and disqualify truly great efforts from even having a shot at the award.

First Look at Megatron in Transformers Dark of the Moon

We get our first look at Megatron, returning for Transformers Dark of the Moon, and he is not at all what I expected. He will be a rugged looking transport truck.

Above we see the toy image, and below we see the toy in vehicle mode comparison as well as the on set validation that Megatron will be a truck.

This is very non-traditional for Megatron who for two movies did not stoop to adopting a human vehicle form, and will now be some non-combat vehicle. Granted its a very large vehicle, so he will still be massive in bot mode.

Megatron has been a pistol, a cannon, Tank and flying alien combat jet. Even in Transformers Animated he was a unique helicopter/jet hybrid thing, but still combat.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers being Adapted to Live Action

The Bakugan toys follow a long standing tradition of animated series that revolve around “battlers” who compete for glory and to restore balance to the world, all the while providing 23 minute commercials to sell toys.

And now the unfolding collectable transformer orbs will be adapted into a big screen live action film for Universal.

Collider shares:

The property centers on a group of creatures called Bakugan and the battle brawlers who own them. The Japanese series found its first success in the United States and Canada — three seasons have aired on the Cartoon Network, with a fourth on the way. After spawning a popular strategic card game, the Toy Industry Association named Bakugan Battle Brawlers the “Property of the Year” in 2009.

According to TheWrap, Scott Stuber (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Jon Mone (The Wolfman) will produce along with Ronnen Haray of Spin Master Ltd.

Considering the heart of these properties is to sell toys/games, its hard to get behind a big screen adaptation.

My kids watch the show, and even they can’t tell you the overall plot as the episodes tend to center on the battles more than any real story. I am sure its in there somewhere.

The toys are neat though.

New Your Highness Trailer Online

A new trailer is out for Your Highness, and this time around its safe for work and television, but still promises to be a racy funny film.

I love how Portman seems to be the one playing it straight and she looks absolutely staggering in this (Zooey Dreschenel too), and it all looks like its coming together to be rather funny.

Dreamworks Animation takes on Maintenance

Dreamworks Animation is set to adapt the OniPress comic Maintenance as a comedic animated feature, that stars two janitors who work for a company that supplies supervillains with their gadgets.

JoBlo says:

DWA has grabbed the rights to the Oni Press comic series MAINTENANCE, which follows a pair of janitors at a company that provides equipment for supervillains.

Originally WB had their mitts on this property and were trying to adapt it as a Men in Black style comedy for McG, but nothing happened with it.

So Dreamworks is going to make it into an animated feature. The book is described: You think your job is bad? Doug and Manny have you beat! These guys are janitors! But they’re not your typical custodial crew–no, sir! They’re the guys who keep things shiny and clean at TerroMax, Inc., the world’s biggest and best evil science think tank! When they’re not dealing with toxic spill monsters and talking mansharks, they still have to worry about mad scientists, crazy would-be dictators, and the cute girl who works at reception!

Sounds ripe with opportunities, and I am curious to see what Dreamworks does with it.

I wonder if TerroMax competes with ACME, who appears to supply Wile E. Coyote with his Roadrunner hunting equipment.

MGM Restructuring Plan Starts with Cash

MGM Studios has new bosses calling the shots and the new restructuring plan includes a cash infusion of $500million keeping the doors open and hopes of bringing this studio back from the brink.

Collider quotes:

“Beginning today, MGM is a stronger, more competitive company, with a solid financial foundation and a bright future. MGM is emerging from one of the most challenging periods of its storied history. We are honored and inspired at the opportunity of leading one of Hollywood’s most iconic studios into its next generation of unforgettable filmmaking, global television production and distribution and aggressively pursuing, developing and exploiting new digital platforms.”

Now this sounds very noble and a lot of positive buzz is supposed to be generated here, but I wonder exactly how MGM is going to dig themselves out of this hole, even with new management by Spyglass entertainment founders Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum.

The studio is approximately $5billion in debt, and they have been given $500million to fund their road to recovery.

Granted the studio still owns the rights to James Bond and The Lord of the Rings (which in turn means The Hobbit) so there is some potential money trucks there. But lets put this in real terms.

Five Billion dollars =
1.85 Avatars
2 Lord of the Ring Trilogies
2.7 Titanics
4.7 Toy Story 3's
The First six Harry Potter Films
The Combined total of all 23 James Bond movies

Thinking of their debt with those numbers alone in consideration (not merchandising, DVD sales etc) it still seems that debt is unsurmountable.

My only hope for the studio is that they manage to continue producing the movies I want to see, or that those properties end up in the hands of someone who will respect them.

I honestly think this infusion of cash is just going to hold them on til they get things sorted out before they push daisies.

Coke Christmas Commercial and Inception

This is a really creative mashup that takes the visuals of a nifty Coca-Cola Christmas commercial, and backs it up with the Inception soundtrack with some startling results.

Keep in mind that this is not edited visually to fit. The commercial is running as intended, as well as the score from Inception.

This is a fine example of just how a soundtrack can change how you percieve footage. The magic and whimsey of the Coke Commercial is suddenly seen in an entirely different light when the haunting Inception score is added.

Tron Holiday Special Spoof Trailer Online

As a badge of pride I wear the emotional scar of surviving the Star Wars Holiday Special, which was aired once in 1977 and was truly terrible.

So when I saw this Funny or Die video spoofing the Star Wars Holiday Special with 1982's Classic Tron I couldn’t help but smile.

And while some people will look at this spoof trailer and think how this isn’t even funny to think they would have aired something like that, you are just scratching the surface of the Star Wars Holiday Special, because it was just that bad.

Emma Stone Signed on for Spider-Man Sequels

In an appearance on Jay Leno, Emma Stone sporting her hot new blond look revealed a tiny spoiler for the Spider-Man reboot when she admitted to being signed on for more than one Spider-Man movie.

TheFilmStage quotes:

While talking to Jay Leno about the reboot in which she plays Gwen Stacy, Stone said, “There’s a few Spider-Men, so I may have to keep it for a couple of years.”

So it would seem that they are going to stretch out the Gwen Stacy relationship a few films. I think this will make her inevitable death that much more impacting, if and when they finally get to telling that story.

Starting a relationship and losing the girl you have been dating for a few weeks has to suck, but Gwen’s death echoes through Spider-Man’s story for decades and has a huge impact on the character. I like that she will be sticking around some.

That and Stone is awesome.

Full Paul Trailer Online

Still anticipating the third film of the Ice Cream Triology, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team up again without Edgar Wright for Paul and we finally get a full trailer.

I like how Paul is visually the stereotypical alien, but they don’t make him all strange and awkward misunderstanding human culture. He is rather acclimated to Earth life, presumably from 60 some years of captivity in Area 51.

However Seth Rogen voicing the character is VERY Seth Rogen, and its almost distracting not to see Seth there.
